Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 12, 2026
This policy explains what personal information Tuvo collects, why, who it's shared with, and the choices you have. It covers the Tuvo iPhone app, this website (tuvodate.com) and the Tuvo Spots partner portal. We wrote it in plain language. If anything is unclear, email us.
1. Who we are
Tuvo is a sole proprietorship based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In this policy, "Tuvo", "we" and "us" mean the business that runs the Tuvo app and this website.
Our founder is responsible for privacy at Tuvo. Contact: support@tuvodate.com (subject: Privacy).
2. What we collect when you use the app
Account: your email address, and your password (stored only in scrambled form by our login provider) or your Sign in with Apple ID.
Profile: your name, birthdate, gender, who you'd like to meet, photos, bio, prompts, interests, an optional voice prompt, and dating preferences. Gender and who you'd like to meet can reveal your sexual orientation, which is sensitive. You choose to add it, and we use it only to match you.
Location: your approximate location (rounded to about 1 km) when you sign up and about once a month after that. Location is needed to show people near you.
Activity: likes, passes, matches, messages, chat photos, meetup plans, reports and blocks, and whether chats get answered or closed (used for the reply rate on profiles).
Verification: if you choose to verify your profile, a selfie that only the Tuvo team can see.
Device: a notification token if you turn on notifications, and basic technical information (like app version) needed to run the app.
Support: what you send us when you ask for help.
We don't collect your contacts, your precise location in the background, payment card details, or advertising identifiers. The date safety check-in plan stays on your phone. It's only shared if you share it yourself.
3. What we collect from other people
Hype Squad: friends who answer on your Hype page give their first name, how they know you and their answer. Only answers you approve show on your profile.
Cafés and restaurants: if you contact us about Tuvo Spots or use the partner portal, we collect your name, business details, email, and phone if you give it.
Beta applications: if you apply for the beta, your answers are collected through Google Forms.
4. How we use it
To run Tuvo: create your account, show you profiles and matches, deliver messages, suggest places halfway between you, and send notifications you turned on.
To keep people safe: review reports, verify profiles, prevent scams, spam and abuse, and enforce our Community Guidelines.
To improve Tuvo: fix bugs and understand what to build next, using feedback you send us. We don't use third-party analytics or advertising tools.
To talk with you: service messages like login links, password resets and important changes. We don't send marketing emails. If we ever do, we'll ask first and every one will have an unsubscribe link.
We never sell your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.
5. What other people can see
Other Tuvo users see your profile: name, age, photos, bio, prompts, interests, voice prompt, city, a rounded distance, your reply rate and approved Hype answers. They never see your exact location, email or birthdate.
Your main photo and first name also show on your Hype page, which anyone with your Hype link can open.
Chat messages and chat photos are only visible to the two people in the chat (and to Tuvo staff in the cases listed in section 7).
When you plan a date at a Tuvo Spot, the café sees only a pass code, the time and that two people are coming. Never your name or profile.
6. Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run Tuvo. They may only use your information to provide their service to us:
Supabase: our database, login, file storage and server functions.
Apple: the App Store, TestFlight, Sign in with Apple, and delivering notifications to your iPhone.
Expo: passes notifications from our servers to Apple. It receives your notification token and the notification text.
Google: sends our login and account emails (Gmail), hosts our beta application form (Google Forms) and our support inbox.
Netlify: hosts this website and stores messages sent through our café contact form.
Resend: sends alert emails to the Tuvo team, for example when a new report needs review.
OpenStreetMap: used by the Tuvo team to find a café's address on the map. No user information is sent.
These providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessed by authorities under local law.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of selling or transferring the business (the new owner would have to follow this policy).
7. Safety reviews
To investigate reports, enforce our Community Guidelines, prevent scams and abuse, or comply with the law, authorized Tuvo staff may review profiles, photos and messages. Every time staff open a conversation it's logged.
8. How long we keep it
While your account is open, we keep your information so Tuvo works. When you delete your account, your profile, photos, voice prompt, verification selfie, chat photos, messages, likes, matches and Hype answers are permanently deleted. Copies in our provider's backups are removed on their normal schedule, usually within 30 days.
Safety reports linked to your account are deleted with it. Your matches are removed too, so those chats disappear for the other person.
Café contact form messages: deleted within 12 months if we don't end up working together. Partner details: kept while you're a Tuvo Spot and deleted within 12 months after you leave.
Beta applications: deleted within 12 months after the beta ends, or sooner if you ask.
Technical logs kept by our hosting providers (like IP addresses) are kept for a short time for security.
9. Your choices and rights
You can see and change most of your information in the app. You can also ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent (which may mean closing your account). Email support@tuvodate.com. We'll reply within 30 days and may ask you to confirm it's really you.
You can delete your account any time in the app: Profile > Account & legal > Delete account. See Delete your data for other ways.
You can turn notifications and location access off in your iPhone Settings. Tuvo needs location to show people near you.
If you're not happy with how we handled a privacy concern, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
10. Security
We protect your information with access rules on every database table (so people can only read and change their own data), encryption in transit (HTTPS) and at rest by our providers, private storage for chat photos and verification selfies, and staff access that's limited and logged.
Messages are stored on our servers. They aren't end-to-end encrypted. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we'll tell the people affected and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.
11. This website
tuvodate.com doesn't use cookies, analytics, ads or trackers, and it loads no code or fonts from other companies. The partner portal keeps you logged in using your browser's local storage. See our Cookie Policy.
12. Adults only
Tuvo is for adults 18 to 29. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor is using Tuvo, please report it in the app or email us, and we'll remove the account.
13. Changes
If we make important changes to this policy, we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
14. Contact
